How do I get data to populate (i.e., how to use the filter bar)? – Transportation

The filter bar exists across the entire application except for the Status Center. Navigating to a new screen will not require the user to re-enter values into any of the fields. Some buttons / filters do not make sense on certain screens of FareVantage^TM, so they are disabled to prevent confusion.

Some views and filters are marked with an asterisk (*) and are required to apply the filters. The “Search” button will be greyed out and unclickable until the Required Filters are populated.

The subsequent sections will describe each button / filter to explain its functionality within the system.

View Selections

View (Dashboard and Demand Forecast Workbench; required field) – This field tells the system what time horizon by which to aggregate the data returned. The options are Periodic, Weekly, Daily, and Train. Periodic will aggregate the demand in the forecast chart by period. The same behaviour will occur for all other selections, progressively moving to lower levels of detail. The default value for this field is “Daily”.
View (Inventory Workbench) – with this filter, the user can specify only records with a particular inventory status. This is beneficial for quickly reviewing records that are in the “Needs Approval” status or reviewing new trains that were just placed on sale. Multiple selections are supported.

Class Selector (required field) – populates the screen with data for either Standard or First class.
Date Picker – this allows the user to select a range of departure dates to be shown in the system. The boxes to the right of the starting and ending boxes track the number of days before or after the current selected date. Entering values in the absolute date picker fields will automatically populate the relative date pickers and vice versa.

Filters

Market (required field) – Filters the data for the Services that belong to a designated market or a group of markets. The set of markets are defined during the configuration of the UI. Multiple selections are supported.
Journey – Allows the user to filter the data for a set of origins and destinations. The user can fill out only one field to see all departures from ORIGIN, for example. Multiple selections in either field are supported. These filters also include cascading logic. When an origin is selected, only viable destinations will appear in the dropdown. If multiple origins are selected, viable destinations for either (NOT both) origins will be populated. In this scenario, if one origin is removed from the filter, any destinations that were only viable from that origin will also be removed from the selection as a means of UI validation.

DOW – Filters the data for a Day of Week. Multiple selections are supported.
Journey Type (disabled on Inventory Workbench) – Filters the data for O/Ds with one of the three journey types (Peak, Off Peak, Shoulder Peak). Multiple selections are supported.
Daypart (disabled on Inventory Workbench) – Filters the data for O/Ds with a specific daypart. Dayparts are simply Journey Types that have been subdivided further (e.g. PK1, PK2 for the Peak Journey Type). These were designed and implemented to increase the granularity and quality of the forecast. Multiple selections are supported.
Service – Filters the data for a specific Service. Multiple selections are supported. User can also use a wildcard character (*) in order to filter to a wider set of Services (i.e. XX4* will filter to all Services that begin with XX4). Wildcard filtering can also be used alongside Service specific filters.
